The Conservation and Repair of the Old Beacon and Lightkeeper’s Cottage, Dennis Head, North Ronaldsay
The Dennis Head Old Beacon sits on the northeast corner of Orkney’s most northerly island – North Ronaldsay and is the oldest surviving, complete purpose built light tower of its era in Scotland. Built in 1788 to alert seafarers of the dangers off the coast of North Ronaldsay, the tower itself is still intact on the outside, a testament to the superb craftsmanship at the time. In 2008 the Trust received a HLF Grant to undertake investigations as to the condition and archaeology of the structure. They are now actively seeking funding to take the conservation programme into the next phase.
